Match Report - 1/12/19
U14Girls B vs Camberley and Farnborough
Result: 2-1
MoM: Grace C and Charlotte C (Happy Birthday! 🎂)
Report:
AHC's U14 girls 2nd XI continued to show that whilst they are U13 they are still able to compete against other clubs U14 1st XI sides. It is always a good competitive game against Camberley and Farnborough and today’s match was no different. Alton played some very skillful hockey, moving the ball around and creating opportunities for each other. There were great drives down the wings from Annabel, Lola, Jorja, Ruby and Cecilia and the girls moved into great positions to receive the ball from the centre midfielders. In the middle Charlotte, Caitie and Ellie created lots of opportunities to lead the attack and their skill to manoeuvre the ball was 2nd to none. After a few missed opportunities, Alton eventually went 1-0 up after a composed shot around the keeper from Charlotte. As the game progressed the defence were challenged on a number of occasions but the defenders, Evie K, Hebe, Evie D and Holly were doing a great job of protecting the Alton goal. Camberley were challenging back and a one on one with Grace in goal saw a clean smother and Alton kept the ball out of the net. This soon followed with a three on one. Thankfully the Camberley players all went to the ball rather than spreading out and this allowed Grace a second well timed smother and the game remained at 1-0 to Alton.
As the final 3rd got underway Camberley were determined to battle back, with a strike on the Alton goal the ball hit the post and ricocheted across the goal to a Camberley player who hit the ball across the front of the goal for another player to pop it across the line making the score 1-1. The Alton girls, kept the momentum up and every player stepped it up another level to keep possession of the ball and to continue the attack on Camberley. There was fantastic defensive work with Evie intercepting the ball and Hebe acting like a wall to keep the ball away from the Alton goal. Evie D and Holly continued to mark players out of the game and to put pressure on Camberley to force mistakes. The midfielders and forwards took the opportunity to work together to continue to press Camberley. With some great balls in from Caitie, Charlotte and Ellie, Jorja and Ruby led the attack upfront, but Camberley’s defence and keeper were strong and shielded many of the attempts.
Eventually the winning goal of the game came from Lola who kept her composure and managed to push the ball past the keeper and securing a 2-1 victory. A great performance from all the girls. Thank you to our hosts Camberley and Farnborough for a great game and friendly welcome.
